Along the spruce forest, past the fragrant alpine meadows, always following the signposts. Our calves might be aching, but we’re not tired yet. We are nearly there. Juniper bushes and all sorts of wildflowers can be seen along this beautiful hiking trail up to the rustic dairy hut. It can’t be far now. Dad can already smell his speck platter. One last bend and ta-daaa… suddenly the hut appears, almost out of nowhere, like a reward.

Hiking is easy in the magnificent Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Numerous hiking routes conceal other attractions: rustic dairy huts, unspoilt landscapes, various animals… Each one offers different yet impressive views of the Antholz Valley, the Rieserferner Group and the Dolomites. Those who have made it to the top are also welcome to yodel down into the valley from above – loud enough to be heard on the Kronplatz.

There are also all kinds of wonderful family hiking trails here in Antholz. Some are quite short, some are a bit longer and others can even be done with a pram.
And, once we reach the top, a speck platter will be placed in the middle of our table and everyone can help themselves – served of course with Schüttelbrot, the crispy bread from South Tyrol, so even Dad is satisfied.

Hiking with the family

Kumpfl Alm
A quaint and beautiful hut serving tasty delicacies and with fabulous views.
Staller Sattel
One foot in Italy, with the other in Austria!
Hofstatt Alm
Just 30 minutes on foot from Antholz Niedertal, also suitable for pushchairs. There is a little children’s playground up there.
Grente Alm
One for “good walkers”, but well worth it!
Berger Alm
An idyllic place with lots of typical specialities in a family atmosphere… just great!
Hochraut Alm
A lovingly furnished little hut with delicious traditional and homemade dishes.
Kronplatz
Whether you get there on foot or on the ski lift, the ringing of the peace bell at the top of the Kronplatz is worth the journey. As is the view and the Messner Mountain Museum by top architect Zaha Hadid, of course!
Lake Antholz
A walk around the mountain lake takes 1.5 hours and is also possible with a pram. But at a gentler pace!
